Fragments

The release of Fragments is a compilation of recent works derived from field recordings in malls, samples, loops, and… samples taken of family members from old video tapes, YEARS ago. The theme of this album is largely fragments of memories, deeply cherished throughout life, and the feedback from family has been amazing. At first, I thought Precious Moments was a little dark musically with lots of chaos, ups and downs. But I realized this not only reflected my feelings, but that of my family’s experiences, too.

But so it goes, all families have deep histories of pain and joy. So I moved forward with the project’s direction with plenty of integration with family. My grandfather’s improv sketch into the video camera about Key West and Long John is a particular jewel we all love about my grandpa’s great character. I was holding the video camera at about 8 or 9 years old, while he did his thing. I was adamant about keeping and recoding archives of audio and video of family and my environment (an early field recording guy) as I knew there would be a use for it all years later.

I hope you enjoy this journey, and thank you so much for listening –

Josh
